How To Hit a Slow Pitch Softball Further

Choose the right bat

Choosing the right bat is the first and foremost thing that you need to do. There are different types of the baseball bat, depending on the construction material. Choose a bat which will suit you properly as well as legal for your league. Check with your coach or manager about the bat before choosing it to know whether your league allows it or not. Make sure that you have chosen the right sizes of the bat. The bat should come with the right size and weight so that you can hit the ball better. The bat must not very heavy or very larger as you will not get the right assistance from it.

Find the right grip

Grip the bat with two hands in parallel. If you are a right-hander, then the right hand will be in the top. For the left-hander, the left hand will be on top. Try to hold the bat from the bottom of the handle as it will produce much power. However, you can always choke up for greater and better control.

Warm up with the bat

Take several swings with the ball. Before doing this, warm up your muscle for swing and make sure you are clear from hitting anyone. Swing for several times and practice different good techniques. You must do this before going to the batters’ box. Else, you may not get proper confidence during the game.

Stand correctly on the batter’s box

The position of standing in the batter’s box put a great impact on your game performance. If you stand wrongly, you will never get the proper grip, and can’t hit the ball with a proper swing. While standing, most people love to stand directly parallel to the home plate. However, you can adjust the distance against the home plate to get a better room for hitting the ball. Stand in such a way so that you can get a better balance and move shoulder apart. Keep your left foot wall planted as you are going to use this foot for pushing and gaining power for your swing.

Take several swings in the batter box

It is always a good idea to take several swings from the batter box. It grows confidence and let you know how you should attack. Make sure that the swing is going to cover the home plate. Stand in a place where the ball will pass between your chest and mid-thigh. If you require a few more second for becoming ready, you can signal it by holding up your hand.

Keep your eyes on the ball

What is the best way to connect with the ball? Keep your eyes on the ball instead of the bat. It will help you to understand the speed and possible direction of the ball. As a result, you will be able to connect the ball and hit better. However, you have to determine the types of pitch, whether it is going to bounce the ball or make the ball go lower. If you are not planning to swing, relax, and step out of the box after the ball crossing the plate.

Swing the ball with speed

Swing the ball as fast as you can because it is the key to making the ball pass extra distance. Try to hit the ball from the barrel of the bat as it will produce additional pace and help you to hit harder. Plan ahead before the ball coming to be assured where you can hit the ball best. Try to hit the ball by upping the bat slightly upwards as it will help to hit the ball much further.

Increase your momentum by stride

Striding toward the pitch during swinging will help you to create a great momentum and bat speed. Line drives are usually harder to catch. If you hit the ball high in the air without traveling much distance, then you may be swinging much. It increases the such of outing by catch. However, that doesn’t mean that you should swing down as it can cause grounder and the fielder will be able to easily caught it. Remember one thing – the better you can hit the ball from the sweet spot, the greater the output you will get.

Run as first as you can

After hitting the ball, if you require running, then do it as fast as you can. Else, the fielder can run out you. Decide whether you should change the side or not with the indication of your coach.

Hopefully, the above guide will be helpful to hit a slow pitch softball further.
