Today we will give you a step by step guide on how to grip the baseball bat properly. Every step is described easily so that you understand the main points. Keep reading the article carefully from below:

1.  Hold the handle correctly

The first and foremost action that you need to learn is how to handle the bat correctly. Whether you will get the right grip or not will mainly depend on how you are holding the bat. Start with placing the bottom of the bat on the surface near to your foot. For the right-handed hitters, the lead foot and hand will be in the left. It will create a small angle which will aid to generate additional whip to your wrist.

2.  Arrange the fingers properly

The finger arrangement is another important thing that you learn for better gripping the bat. You will need to arrange the thumb of your bottom hand. Curve the fingers of your bottom hand around the baseball bat and then separate the three fingers of the bottom which are wrapped around the handle. As you hold the bat with fingers, try to keep your palm away from the hand.

3. Gripping with the top hand

Now, hold the handle of the bat as like as your bottom handle with your fingers. Make sure that the index finger is separated from the three bottom fingers. However, all found fingers grip the bat with your thumb so that you find it comfortable to hold the bat.

4. Keep the grip relaxed

You don’t need to hold the bat firmly. Keep it relaxed. Keeping the grip tight from the beginning will produce fatigue in your muscles and fingers, which will be weaker and slower the swings. That is because you will automatically get a tighten grip with the swing motion and it will be the strongest during contacting the ball with the bat. So, keep the grip light at the beginning.

5. Use the wrists appropriately

The correct use of the wrist is also essential. Make such a grip which enables the wrist moving well so that you can produce adequate bat lag and hit the ball with the head of the bat. Bat lag means the relationship of the hand and the bat which process swing through the contact. It will help to create as much as bat speed as possible. Your bat will lefts behind, but the hand will come forward as you swing.

6.  Find the proper swing

Your body needs to be relaxed, and your mind should be calm before you do this. You need to uncoil your muscle body and hit the ball properly. Your shoulder shouldn’t be in a level position.

7.  Find your strongest grip

This part is important. You need to find out the possible contact of the bat and ball so that you can grip the handle accordingly. You will get the most reliable grip when the palm of your top hand is in front, and the bottom hand’s palm is facing down. The hand should be in parallel to the ground if you are planning to open both hands. Usually, the thumb of the top hand will prevent the bat from going backward due to the opposite force and keep the grip tighten to ensure nothing happen like this. The range of your knuckle should deliver you enough places to make contact with the ball. You can find this by making contact with the ball and holding the position.

8.  Stand properly

Standing plays a vital role to get the proper level of power for the grip. Slightly bend the knees so that you can balance properly with your weight. Put your feet slightly wider than your shoulder, which will ensure your lower body is also engaged for helping you to hit. Never keep your feet altogether because it makes it challenging to retain the head level. Moreover, don’t keep the feet too close as they will decrease the power as you are not using the entire weight of your body into the swing. Make sure that you see the pitcher and the ball with your both eyes from your standing position for batting.

9.  Avoid excess movement

Some player makes excess movement during batting; you shouldn’t do this. Such actions can disrupt your batting stance. You should be relaxed and focused on the pitch. Position your hand at the top of the striking zone and position your feet slightly more apart than your shoulder.

To get the proper grip, play around the grip and you will eventually get the result.

10. Troubleshoot the problem you are facing

One important thing is you will need to be comfortable and confident with your grip. You don’t need to be afraid if you are consistently feeling the same problem. Try to find out the problem and eventually, you will be able to overcome these problems.
